God Bless Our Veterans!

Residents and staff gathered today to honor and remember those who have served in the U.S. Military at a special Veterans Day Ceremony. Each veteran present at the ceremony was recognized with a flag pin, presented by members of the Roswell High School JROTC. Flags were raised by the Roswell High School Color Guard and Rev. Larry Robert of Vitas Hospice led the service. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a slice of cake and enjoyed sharing stories and visiting with one another.

Gardens of Honor

During World Wars I and II, people in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Germany planted Victory Gardens (also called war gardens or food gardens for defense) as a way to reduce the demand on the public food supply and support the war effort. Learn more about this civilian effort on the home front in The History of Victory Gardens.

Consider planting your own Victory Garden this Memorial Day weekend, in honor of those who served and those who are currently serving our country!

Heeding the Signs

SGV members Alice and Jim Sterling had the foresight to plan for their future health and lifestyle needs.

When Jim Sterling was present for the groundbreaking of St. George Village back in 2003, he and his wife, Alice, were interested in the community… but not yet ready to leave their home in a nearby  subdivision. They visited again in 2005 when the life care community opened for residency… and Jim still wasn’t ready to leave home. But two years later, the Sterlings knew it was finally the right time to make St. George Village their permanent home.

Promoting Improved Quality of Life for Older Georgians

One of the highlights of the Summit was celebrating a declaration from Gov. Nathan Deal, designating September 26, 2013 as "Culture Change Day in Georgia."

Fifteen  St. George Village care partners and two of the community’s residents attended the 6th Annual Culture Change Summit on Sept. 26. The purpose of the Summit is to bring together interested parties for a discussion of how to effectively change the way people think about seniors and the aging process.

Home Testing For AFib Patients

You can save time and trouble testing your blood at home.

If you or someone you know is on blood thinners and tired of traveling to a clinic for a clotting time test, you may be relieved to learn about a much more convenient option: testing yourself at home, on your fingertip.

Many people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat, known as “AFib”) or other conditions that can lead to blood clots have to be on lifelong treatment with anticoagulant medications such as Coumadin (warfarin) to help “thin” their blood. Since diet, stress and other factors make patients react differently to warfarin, they need to have their clotting time tested regularly. That can involve a lot of time and hassle to travel to a lab, clinic or doctor’s office.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities, how secure are they?

"Continuing Care Retirement Community"

The security of a continuing care retirement community is actually a very broad topic. Some will focus on the financial security of the community while others will be inclined to think of their physical safety within their new living environment. When clients ask this important question I always respond with a clarifying question to determine just what they really mean by secure. This ensures that I’ll answer their specific question and also provides an opportunity to address the three ways living at St. George Village is a secure choice!

How do you know when it’s time to move to a retirement community?

Atlanta Retirement Community I’m never really asked this question by clients yet it’s always implied when they say something like…St. George Village is really very nice, but I’m not ready to move just yet. When you’re independent and able to live without assistance it’s really hard to know when to make the move to a retirement community. You must admit that the thought of a retirement community leads one to think about aging people and a life that revolves around doctor’s appointments, wheel of fortune, eating diner at 5:00 and heading to bed around 7:00.
